Story
My first introduction to Care for the Family was at Spring Harvest in 2002, when I heard Rob Parsons ask the couples with children how difficult it was to raise their children. Then he said “If it is difficult for you as a couple, just think how difficult it must be for those single parents in your midsts.” I had been bringing my daughter up on my own, ever since she was born, and it was the first time I had ever heard someone stand up in support for single parents. From then on I became a supporter of Care for the Family and donated to them regularly for many years. They offer support for so many family issues, those that we often find difficult to talk about. The death of a child or parent, separation and divorce, they are there giving support in all sorts of circumstances. They are always there at the end of the telephone.
In 2009 I attended one of their 1-2-1 weekends which are aimed at 1 parent and 1 child, spending time together in an environment where parent and child can get to know each other a bit better out-with the rest of the family. I made a life-long friend at this weekend, it was great to have the opportunity to meet someone in a very very similar situation to the one that I was in, with my daughter, at the time.
When I decided to challenge myself to walk the length of the River Ayr, it didn't take me long on deciding that I might as well see if I could raise some money whilst I was about it, and Care for the Family quickly came to mind.
Please consider donating for my cause, or even better, why don't you join me on the walk. Any company will be very welcome.
