Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Broadwater Sailing Club "Race into the dark" fundraising page. This year the event, will take place between mid-day and sometime late in the evening on Saturday 11th September 2010.
Now a regular event in the Clubs Calendar, this race began following the sad death of a member’s wife, who along with her family had been so kindly supported by the Hospice, Michael Sobell House. The race is an opportunity for us all to give something back in return.
On the day of the race, members will compete for the Michael Sobell Shield, awarded to the team that completes the most number of laps of the lake. Tensions will run high; this year everyone will be sailing in the same class of dinghy (Wayfarer) which will make the race easier to follow. As always that last puff of wind may literally make all the difference. As night falls, the dinghies and buoys marking the course will switch on their lights, and the novel experience of sailing in the dark will begin.
The most coveted prize, the Dorothy Smith Trophy, will be awarded to the best fundraising team. Following last years event, we have been set a very high target indeed, and that is where you, or more precisely your money come in. If you would like to sponsor a team or an individual, donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Please feel free to join us at Broadwater Sailing Club on the day, or if you have access to the internet, watch us on the webcam. Thank you, in anticipation of your generosity.
