As many of you will know in October 2010 I will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for Princess Anne Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A team of 30 doctors, nurses, health care assistants, as well as friends and family and parents of patients on the unit are aiming to raise £100,000 to create additional much needed parent accommodation for the ward. Along with my fellow adventurers it is a cause that i am very passionate about. Having worked on the unit for the last 6 years I have personnally witnessed the severe lack of parental space, both bedrooms and wash facilities as well as 'living room'.

The unit provides specialist care to sick term and pre term (premature) new born babies.  Based at the  it is one of the largest in the country, caring for over 600 babies every year. It is a state of the art facility, which has 36 cots; 20 intensive/high dependency cots and 16 special care cots. Currently the unit can only offer 3 bedrooms to families on the unit.

The unit is a regional centre within the Central Coast South Neonatal Network (CCSNN) and looks after babies from Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole, Chichester, Dorchester, Basingstoke, The Isle of Wight, , and the .
