I have always wanted to have a challenge that would push me and in some respect have always liked the thought of being able to run a marathon, the reality, as I am finding, is about commitment, alot of running and finding a cause apart from seemingly getting fitter (although I am not exactly built for long distance running), that will give something back.

And it is the giving something back that matters most.

Therefore running the marathon is simply a chance to raise money and awareness hence why I chose Whizz-kidz, a charity which helps disabled children have an active and independent life.

Some points of interest:

Whizz-Kidz is a charity that is all about giving disabled children and young people the independence to enjoy an active childhood – at home, at school and at play.

By providing them with customised mobility equipment, training, advice and life skills, it gives them something much more important; the independence to be themselves. This makes an immediate difference to the children and their families. If you want to read more the link is below:

On April 25th I will discover whether all the training has worked, I am sure it has, the picture on the site is from a half marathon I ran in Brighton as part of building up for the marathon - I am now somewhat comfortable around the 18 mile mark, although whether the knees, hamstring and feet are is another matter. Just another 8 odd miles left to find :)
