Story

Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge - 20 June 2017
Hayley is taking on the beautiful major 3 peaks of the Yorkshire dales in 1 day! With over 5000ft of climbing and 24.5miles she will tackle, Pen Y Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough all within 12hours.

My sister G wrote this for me , she is far better explaining then me. But every word is true.

Have you ever felt the pain of looking into your dads eyes and they just stare back at you with no recognition? Have you ever felt your heart shatter into a trillion piece because your dad has no clue who you are or even that you are there? Have you ever seen the pain of a slow torturing death, that we should only face in our nightmares? Have you ever wished for eyes to twinkle back at you, a corner of a mouth to turn slightly upwards, for a hand to slightly squeeze yours and let you know that they know your there? Have you ever longed, to end their suffering, to help them out of pain? Have you ever, longed to hear their voice just one more time?

Have you ever needed to get a chance to say good bye and that you love them?

Dec 4th 1996, our dad, United Kingdom Ironman, Christopher Newell was on his way to a charity triathlon in Saudi Arabia, when two teenage joy rides, crashed into the back of the car Chris was traveling in. The car span out of control, rolled many times and he was thrown through the back windscreen, resulting in him being thrown with great force into a tree head first. We are unaware of what injuries happened before impact, we will never know.
Dad had instantly lost one quarter of his brain and died at the scene.
His friends started mouth to mouth, until the emergency survives arrival, many attempts were made and they strongly believed the they were doing the right thing, unfortunately they were badly mistaken as they brought him back after no oxygen to his brain for over 5 minutes. If this had happened in the U.K. Resuscitation would not have happened, saving our dad from months of pain, also sparing us of the horrors we saw over the next four months.
When he finally got to hospital, he had already been classed as brain dead, but they kept on resuscitating him.
He was rushed to theatre were the git and gravel was removed along side more of his brain.
Our mum and older Sister were flown out to Saudi, the next morning. The Saudi government would only allow them to go, we were left alone, hanging on the phone for news. As you can imagine this was a very painful torture but the sights our mum and sister saw, were even worse.
On their arrival, they were told that "Dad would be sat up in a few days and be right as rain. Funny that considering he now only had half a brain.
There were cockroaches running around the room in intensive care (wrong totally wrong, disgusting in fact.)
Dad went on to form a blood clot and was taken to theatre once again, resulting in another quarter of his brain being removed.
At one point while he was in the Saudi hospital, Mum and Ker were asked to leave the room, two young boys entered intensive care and stood over our Dad, laughing and taunting him.
We discovered later that these children were the joyriders of the car that had caused the horrific accident. They had stood there and laughed at what they had accomplished, at the life they had destroyed, not only dad's life, they had destroyed ours, our childhood, our life's, our happiness and our futures. Our dad would never see us grow up, see us marry and meet his grandchildren.
We will never in our lifetimes get over that and we pray that karma finds it way to them. They are monsters of the worst degree.

We finally managed to get dad home the UK, but he never know us, never know we were there.
For the next few month we sat by his bedside, day in day out, feeling every emotion possible. We sat and watched our hero fade away in front of our eyes.
Everyday hoping that today would be the day that he would give us a sign that he knew us, every day we faced heartbreak over and over, we heard that haunting noise of his tracheotomy, the rasping, the mucus bubbling in his tubes.
We were living the worst possible nightmare, one that will haunt us until our dying days.
It took just over four months for our hero to die.
Finally his pain was gone but ours had only just begun.
He is at peace now but we still relive the horrors everyday and they haunt our nightmares.
The death rattle plays over and over in our minds and all we remember a face full of pain.

If only things had been different, if he had recovered just a little.
Headway would have been a massive part of our life's if recovery had been possible. Dad would have spent the rest of his life under their care.
I feel a great need to try and raise awareness for this charity and support them so they can carry on their care, support and love they give to many people that face the future the way our wonderful dad would have done.
Please help us to raise a little money in hopes to give others a better future with the support they and their families need.
It really doesn't have to break the bank, as little as a pound will go along way.
