Story
I grieved the loss of a sibling as a child. It’s hard. I now have the devastating privilege of knowing a truly special little girl who is just beginning to navigate the loss of both of her parents at the age of 9. I can't change these circumstances, but I can do something to try and help those who know best how to support her, and other children like her. That's why I've decided to raise money for Harry's Rainbow, whilst running the Manchester Half Marathon in October.
Harry's Rainbow is a Charity that supports grieving children across Milton Keynes, Leighton Buzzard, Buckingham and Northampton, who have lost a parent or a sibling. Unbelievably statistics show that in the Milton Keynes area alone, on average, 100 parents will die in one year, leaving 170 dependent children.
Harry's Rainbow provides support to these young people through regular support groups, activities and trips, memory boxes and individual tailored support, as appropriate. Whilst the support package is predominantly built to support the bereaved child, all activities consider the whole family to ensure that parents and carers are involved and also supported as a result. This also includes the larger extended family where there may be step siblings and parents.
I know money is tight for everyone right now, but I promise that anything you can spare will spur me on with my training. Your generosity will help these kids to navigate the grief associated with loss, that even we as adults understandably struggle to process.
THANK YOU!
