Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As well as the below, I will now be swimming in memory of my best mate Dan Hulme, who passed away suddenly on September 9th. Dan was planning on travelling over to support me on the swim. He was the friendliest, kindest person you would hope to meet, and his death has left a huge hole in my life. Dedicating my swim to him is just one small thing I can do to honour his memory.

You may be surprised to know that Royal Sussex County Hospital was originally called Sussex County Hospital and General Sea-Bathing Infirmary. Brighton’s popularity as a seaside resort owes a lot to Dr Richard Russell - one of the first people to promote the medicinal qualities of sea water back in the 1700s.

Our main hospital is just a stone's throw from the sea and we now know for sure that Dr Russell had the right idea. That's why we felt a swim challenge was a really appropriate way of fundraising.

The Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals is one of the oldest charities in the city and has been supporting our local hospitals since not long after the NHS was formed in 1948. Our mission is to improve patient experience by funding equipment and services that aid wellbeing and improve recovery speed.

Everything we raise goes back into improving our local healthcare services which we all depend on. As the recent pandemic has shown, we’ve never needed our NHS more than now and hospitals need our support more than ever.

By donating to the Big Brighton Sea Swim you are helping us to raise vital funds that will really make a difference to patients in our city.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Please come down and support me during my 3 mile swim on the day!

Thanks!
