Story
In 2001, my brother Brian was in a car accident leaving him with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). His road to recovery has had many challenges. He was given his Last Rites four times, as his chances for survival did not look good.
Those weren't the only odds he defied: he also woke up from a coma after several weeks when we were told he would remain in a vegetative state. He relearned how to walk and talk again after being told he would do neither of those things. He made it above and in beyond and continues to recover every day.
In addition to accidents, brain injuries also include strokes, tumors, and concussions. 1 in 3 people will have an Acquired Brain Injury at some point in their lives, but this is hardly ever talked about.
It's not always the easiest thing to see, so it's very easy to ignore.
SameYou wants to change this. They are working to break the silence around brain injury and help give people the best possible chance of recovery after leaving the hospital. Any donation would help and would be really appreciated.
The Virtual Inca Challenge asks participants to trek 26 miles (the length of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu) by the end of September.
I thought I would take it up a notch and commit to running 26 miles every week until the end of the challenge.
I'd love to raise $500, so any bit helps. Or if you want to join me, even for a mile or two, feel free to share your journey on social media with #SameYouIncaChallenge!
Also, to celebrate completing the challenge, we'll host a live concert at the end of the month. So feel free to make a song request as well!
