Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  On 10 September 2017 I am taking part in the Great North Run, 11 years on from when I last ran it, and I want to take this opportunity to try to raise some money for a great cause, Action on Postpartum Psychosis.

As many of you will know, whilst Kathryn and I are blessed with two wonderful little boys who bring joy to our lives, it wasn't the easiest of introductions to parenthood following the birth of either Jamie or Lewis.  Kathryn suffered from an illness known as Postpartum Psychosis.  Rather than try and explain the illness here, because I don't think I can, I would instead refer your to the APP website: http://www.app-network.org/what-is-pp/.  I can't imagine what it would have been like to go through that, but having been there throughout it I know it is a truly horrible illness.  Kathryn has done amazingly well to battle back from this not once, but twice. My admiration for her strength and bravery is never ending.

In her recovery, Kathryn faced many challenges and I believe that some of these could have been easier overcome had people had knowledge of the illness.  One of the aims of APP is to raise awareness of the illness and support for women and their families.

APP recognise the need to support families which is equally as important to me.  Perhaps I was complacent having been relatively unscathed after Kathryn first had the illness, but I cannot hide from the fact that there was knock on affect onto my own mental health after the second time Kathryn suffered the illness.  Only since the turn of this year, can I say I feel I have felt more like the old me again, but I suppose it may have been quicker if I hadn't remained in denial for so long!  Exercising more has really helped me so raising money for this wonderful charity has not been the only plus from me training to take part in the Great North Run this year.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.  Please give generously.

Thank you.
