The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and hopefully supporting me to raise as much money a possible while I'm taking part in the London Marathron this year.

I understand how difficult it can be to donate money to charities we sometimes feel we don't have ourselves, but here are a few reasons why this charity need our help and how every pound you donate will help.

I am raising money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity because I wasn't aware they received no government or lottery funding at all.

Have you ever tried to get from A to B in total darkness? Pictured your child's face growing up with only your hands or the sound of their voice? It can happen almost overnight to anyone and those who are registered blind still try to live a normal life as best they can with the help of a guide dog.

Every hour, another person in the UK goes blind. There are currently 4,500 working guide dog partnerships in the UK and the full lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is £48,500. They also campaign on behalf of Guide Dog owners to ensure better access to shops, buses, taxis and restaurants. They research into the causes of sight loss and prevention to further sight loss and regularly visit newly qualified dog owners to provide support.

I decided last year I wanted to take on this  challenge, running 26.2 miles and it has now turnt into my dream. Anyone who's spoken to me knows how much running & my health & fitness has changed my life and the huge passion I've discovered for it. The journey ahead of me, both on the day and the months of training I now face will not only be a tiring and demanding one but it will be your support that helps me cross that finish line and who we are helping together - the Guide Dogs Association.

The fundraising I have started and will be doing over the coming months are cake sales, guess the name of the puppy, local retail collections and 2hr spin-a-thon event at a cost of £10 per bike.Anyone who is interested in this please contact me for more info.

Here's where your donations can go:

£2 could buy a dog bowl after a hard days work.  £5 could support a working guide dog partnership for a day, £6 could pay for microchipping, £10 could pay for a grooming kit to keep a guide dog looking and feeling great and £50 could buy the iconic white harness for a newly qualified guide dog and £140 could provide a home starter kit to a new guide dog owner.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for supporting me and the Guide dogs I can't wait til April! Carly x
