We support people to help rebuild lives after stroke.

Story

I shuffled the Great North Run in 2012 and 2013 raising a combined total of £1600 for the Stroke Association thanks to the generous donations from friends, colleagues and family. Seriously your generosity and support has overwhelmed me. So I felt I needed to up the anti this year if I was going to ask you to donate to this fantastic charity and I wanted to do something special in my 40th year as a way of celebrating with my Dad who died after having a stroke in 2010. Today is the 1st May and May is Action on Stroke Month so I felt that today is a good day to launch my action on stroke.

I plan to undertake 14 challenges in 2014 including running the Witches Revenge 10k, Nottingham 10k, York 10k, Great North Run, Great South Run and the Brighton 10k as well as swimming 1 mile in lake Windermere in the Great North Swim. Hence the page title 14 challenge events in 2014 for my 40th to raise money for the Stroke Association

Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. That's one person every five minutes. Most people affected are over 65, but anyone can have a stroke, including children and even babies and Strokes Change Lives.

I'm also running & swimming to honour the hard work my father in law put into recovering from a stroke. I know from my occupation how relatives can feel that they lost their relative after a stroke even if they survived; or how many stroke patients feel that they have lost their confidence after a stroke. So I believe that the best thing I can do to honour both my Dad and my father in law is to raise funds for the Stroke Association to help support others to lead a full life after a stroke.
