Story
Back in 2018 I came up with this ridiculous idea...that because 2019 would see me turning 50 years old, I needed a challenge to welcome in a new decade and to prove that I was not too old to do something I could never have possibly conceived I would ever do!
I am not a runner, far from it, but having started a fitness drive a couple of years ago, I can honestly say that I have found an activity I actually quite enjoy, and I was determined to be in the best shape I could be by the time I reached my half century. So here I am having never run a step in my life about to embark on "running" (or possibly jogging) 26.2 miles! But not just any 26.2 miles! I have taken the chance to continue the 50th celebrations right through from my birthday in May to 3rd November and will cross the pond to run through 5 boroughs of the Big Apple. A dream come true.
I have really committed to the training and have never felt better or fitter, so as I was doing this crazy thing, I thought I may as well use the opportunity to do something good and raise some money for a well deserving cause....and what better cause than one that focuses on giving children with disabilities the chance to take part in sport. My brother has also supported this charity in the past in his marathon challenges so I am keeping up the family tradition.
It takes a lot of money to raise funds for each specially adapted sports wheelchair (£4,000), so I'll keep the fundraising side real, Get Kids Going! also raise funds for sports grants, and that's what I'll aim to raise....Get Kids Going! gives disabled children and young people the chance of a lifetime, freedom, and many wonderful opportunities that you and I take for granted.
