We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

On 9 October I am going to be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon (no small task for me!) to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital to fund research into the genetic causes of Mitochondrial Disease and to identify possible treatments. This is my first half marathon but I hope to complete it in well under 2 hours.

I am running with dozens of other runners in memory of a special little girl named Anna Lewis, who tragically died aged only 1 on 1 April 2012.

Anna was a happy baby until she suddenly became ill in January 2012. 8 weeks later Anna was diagnosed at GOSH with Alpers' Disease, a rare Mitochondrial Disease.  Tragically there is currently no treatment or cure for Mitochondrial Disease and Anna died just two weeks later, surrounded by her family.

The money you donate will go to the Anna's Brighter Future Fund which supports the Mitochondrial Research Group so that in the future there may be treatments or even a cure available for this most cruel of diseases.

Please help GOSH to fund research into rare diseases so families like Anna's don't have to suffer in the future.

Thanks

Cassie
