We give our patients outstanding care to help them make the best of every moment

Story

On Friday 23rd of July I shall be making my way north to Glasgow to join a bunch of fellow BMF-ers (British Military Fitness bods) to commence our ascent of Ben Nevis; marking the start of our Three Peaks Challenge!

The Three Peaks Challenge is where you climb (well, hike) the three highest peaks in the UK: Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Mount Snowdon in Wales.  Pretty cool huh?

Oh yes, and you have to do them ALL in 24 hours.... including travelling time between each location :-)

And I am doing all of this to raise as much money as I can for a charity called Trinity Hospice...

Trinity Hospice is located on the edge of Clapham Common in my stomping ground of SW London.  Trinity provides important end of life care to help people, and their friends and families, to 'live every moment' and get the most from their lives.  They provide FREE services not only in patient's own homes, but also as inpatients / outpatients for the 750,000 people living in it's central and south west London community.

Only one third of Trinity's income is provided by the NHS - meaning that support through means such as this is needed to make up the rest needed to provide these vital services each year.

The new 28-bed Inpatient Centre was opened officially by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in July 2009 and is now the finest specialist end of life care facility in the UK.  Each floor of the 28-bed centre has 11 single bedrooms and two multiple occupancy bedrooms for people who like to share. Every bedroom has access to the gardens from a large patio or a balcony, which is big enough to put a bed on. Every bedroom has en suite facilities and space and facilities for family or friends to stay overnight.

Because everyone is different, Trinity personalises it's care to meet individual needs. Their support helps people to make the care choices that are right for them and maintain their independence for as long as they want.

Trinity was founded in 1891 as England’s first hospice – it continues this pioneering tradition today as an innovative and influential centre of excellence for end of life care.

UPDATE:  Well the challenge has been completed and we had 52 minutes to spare apparently!  It was pretty tough going - much harder than I was anticipating... but it makes the achievement all the sweeter for it :-)  I was lucky enough to be in a team of great people who all supported eachother along the way.  And boy did we need it - torrential rain for most of the route, we hiked mostly IN the cloud, so didn't see much of the scenery.  Check out the pictures and THANK YOU once again for your support and for visiting my page x
