Story
Afghanistan is a place close to my heart. It is part of our generation. If you are reading this, you will probably know that I recently co-led an independent expedition to the Wakhan Corridor in the North East of the country. (See picture - this was taken on my last day as a twenty-something!) The people are welcoming, friendly, and above all what Afghans want is to feed, clothe and shelter their families, to provide an education and income. Does this sound so different to you & me?
Please support Afghanaid as I run the Silverstone Half Marathon on March 6th and the Paris Marathon on April 10th. I have never done anything like this before, but it just goes to show what can be achieved with determination. Please help to make a difference:
£10 can buy five children’s literacy books
£30 provides the start up training for one basic veterinary worker
£35 secures safe drinking water for a family
£40 buys fruit saplings which enable a farmer to establish a private orchard
£45 provides a family with water for crops through an irrigation canal
£85 allows a family of six to start a beekeeping enterprise
£90 buys stationery required to run one month's training at Farmer Field Schools for 30 members
£100 provides carpet weaving materials
£120 provides all the seeds and tools necessary to create a kitchen garden
£200 buys saplings to establish a watershed management plot to reduce soil erosion
£400 buys 120 books for a female Self Help Group required to maintain their accounting system (8 bookkeeping material per SHG).
£450 buys ten food processing kits to conduct the training on food processing at a Women’s Resource Centre.
£500 builds a reservoir to provide a village with clean drinking water
£600 buys tailoring machines, clothes and other necessary materials for nine women
£1000 will enable a female member of SHG to start poultry household level enterprise.
£1000 allows 5 women to start a small home based enterprise
£1000 enables us to construct a bridge serving 50 villages or build an irrigation canal to water the crops of one community
