Story

'It's what you can do that counts.' Calvert Trust

The Lake District Calvert Trust go above and beyond to enable people with disabilities to achieve their potential through the challenge of adventurous activities in the countryside in order for them to develop, change perceptions and make positive and lasting changes to their lives.

In June 2022 I volunteered at Calvert Lakes and witnessed the incredible work completed by their inspiring team. I feel so lucky to have been a part of the experience provided to the groups during my stay and will never forget the people I met and shared my time with. In hopes of raising awareness for the Calvert Trust, Lake District I am:

  • Canoeing 24.5 miles on the 10th/11th of September 2022.
  • Completing Calvert 4x4 Extreme Challenge on the 1st/2nd of October 2022.
  • Running 26.2 miles on the 23rd of April 2023. (Awaiting confirmation from the London Marathon however will be running the distance no matter what).

Any donation is greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference.

About the charity

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
