Story
On the 28 May I will be taking to the streets of Manchester to run the Great Manchester Half Marathon, raising funds towards the amazing research that Professor Vaskar Saha and his team are working on to improve the outcome for children who have Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Acute leukaemia is an aggressive form of cancer of the white blood cells that requires immediate treatment as the condition progresses rapidly.
As a result of scientifically designed trials and translational research conducted by Professors Tim Eden and Vaskar Saha, children in the UK with ALL now benefit from one of the highest cure rates in the world.
The drug Mitoxantrone has played a pivotal role in improving the outcome for children with relapsed ALL in the UK, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. This drug improves the outcome of all categories of relapse, compared to previously administered drugs. The ALLR3 trial is the largest study of its kind in the world, running across 20 different countries.
I had the privilege of working with Professor Saha and his team at the University of Manchester, and witnessed the hard work and dedication that goes into the research and clinical trials.
I appreciate that there are often calls to donate to many worthy causes. If you can spare a few pennies or pounds to go towards the vital research and help even more children facing acute lymphoblastic leukaemia it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Charlie xx
