Story

Ta very much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have never been "in shape". I have never been especially fit and or healthy. I have been thin at times but that's not the same. As I recently turned 33 and realised that I have started to get a little on the jiggly-side and I have never been able to run for more than 5 minutes without looking like my eyes were about to start bleeding, I decided that now was the time to do something about it. Allegedly I should be in my prime right?!

Due to my crippling lack of self-discipline and penchant for cheese, without a set event to aim for I would be likely to waver from a path of self betterment. Therefore, I have signed up for and paid for (so no going back) a place in the Yorkshire Classic Tough Mudder event on Saturday 27th July. This is 10 miles of running with around 25 obstacles to go under, over, in or through.

I have never had any upper body strength. I was turned away from a gymnastics club as a chubby child because I couldn't manage one single pull up. I was also, always that kid in PE who looked like he was frantically trying to hump the rope rather than climb it. I used to walk cross-country, as much due to sheer destain for the activity as due to complete ineptitude. Things have not improved since. They have in fact got worse. I am an expert at eating, drinking and general sedentary-ness, so this undertaking is incredibly out of my comfort zone and beyond my normal scope of ability.

I would really appreciate your support and encouragement in any form, not only to help get me round the course on the day but also to get me off my arse and out training beforehand. This is going to be one of the most difficult things I have ever done and I will need all the collective motivation that I can get!

I am of course also doing this to raise money for the charity that I founded over 10 years ago. Most of you will have heard me talking about Eating Stones Fund in some capacity over the years but rarely have I asked friends to sponsor me for undertaking a challenge. Well now is your chance to show your love and donate anything you can to help our work in Kenya. All of you who meant to but never got round to it . . . I NEED YOU NOW!

This year marks a turning point for Eating Stones Fund, as we aim to up our game and expand our reach. Healthy people lead to healthy communities and Eating Stones Fund are working towards improving health services for some of Kenya's most vulnerable people. Too many Kenyans still find themselves orphaned or destitute because their family members were unable to access effective healthcare. Help us make this a thing of the past.

Thank you x
