Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many of you will already know our little boys story. For those who don't I couldn't even begin to tell you about everything he has been through in his short life, but here's a little insight to the difficult start he had.

Harrison James Clark was born on 28 September 2017 at only 26 weeks gestation, weighing a teeny tiny 1lb 3oz (the size of his daddy's hand). He was born at City Hospital Sunderland and cared for by their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He was severely ill, so ill in fact that both us and the doctors and nurses were't sure how long he would live for.

To cut a very long story short, Harrison underwent heart surgery, laser eye surgery and hernia repair surgery, he was dependant on a ventilator for the first 6 weeks of his life and struggled to gain weight for such a long time.

Harrison spent the first 160 days of his life on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and we were finally allowed to take him home to start family life in March 2018, on oxygen and with a feeding tube.

Harrison is amazing, a little superhero. He still has his oxygen and feeding tube but neither of them bother him. He is a happy go lucky little boy who is so full of character and has such an enthusiasm for life. He still has a lot of hurdles to overcome but we are immensely proud of how far he has come so far.

We owe his life to the staff at Sunderland hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. If it wasn't for them our little boy wouldn't be here today. The doctors and nurses are the most amazing, hardworking, selfless and caring people we have ever met. We can never begin to repay them for the care they gave both us and Harrison in the first 5 month of his life, no present will ever be able to express our gratitude.

One thing we know they'll appreciate is fundraising and it will help care for other families in similar situations to ours. There are many things that money donated to the unit can help with. One thing we found amazing was the presents Harrison was given at Christmas. Things like these are not funded by the NHS, but by peoples kind donations. Other things like having comfortable break areas and quiet breastfeeding rooms all help make an awful experience that little bit better.

On 12 July Chris and a group of his friends are doing the 152 mils cycle over 3 days to try and raise as much as possible for this cause that is so close to our hearts. We'd be so grateful if you could donate any amount you can, no matter how small.
