Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My son Jack was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in April 2010, aged 5.
Type 1 diabetes is due to a severe deficiency of insulin and is fatal without lifelong insulin injections. It is an autoimmune disease in which the body's own immune system attacks the insulin producing cells of the pancreas(beta cells) and destroys those cells.
Diabetes treatment is lifelong, continuous, at times painful and frequently frustrating for the individual and family. The demands of diabetes are relentless and can cause enormous stress on children, their parents and their siblings.
We have decided to take part in the London to Paris bike ride in order to raise funds for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) so that one day there will be a cure for Jack and other children like him.
