You may already be aware that my Mum Lynne (57) was diagnosed with Fronto-temporal dementia around 18 months ago.  In truth she had been suffering for a while but no-one recognised the signs. She deteriorated very rapidly and is now, thankfully, in a full time care home where she is happy and well looked after. Sadly, this was not before she had squandered all her savings and been through evictions as she had not been coping with everyday life.

Sadly, it is rare in the UK for care homes to accept people under 65 - as previously people younger than this did not develop dementia.  I dread to think what Mum's or my life would be like now if we had not found her a place.  It was very hard and took a lot of work to get doctors and social workers to agree she needed help.  She can't hold a conversation any more, she either says "Yes", "no" or "don't know".  I can't ask her about her day when i visit, it's like Mum has gone. It's so sad as we used to call her Nanny Verbal because you couldn't get a word in edgeways.
