For years now, since hanging up the boots, I have been running the roads of Lisburn and Belfast for no real reason other than to keep the pounds off!

2 years ago I completed the Lisburn Half Marathon, vowing to never again try that distance and stick to 10k. And now, on the 3rd April, I will take on 26.2 miles of the streets of Paris to raise money for The Mary Peters Trust.

Running on behalf of Crewe United, The Trust is the designated charity of Lisburn Mayor, Cllr Thomas Beckett. It is a worthy cause as it gives kids and young adults the chance to be the best that they can be at their chosen sport, and helps create the stars of the future. Just some of those who have benefitted from the work of the Trust include Rory McIlroy, Carl Frampton, Kelly Gallagher, David Healy, Darren Clarke and Jimmy Kirkwood to name a few have all been supported as they begun their sporting careers.

Whilst Crewe would always promote our own sport, football, as best we can, we recognise the importance of sport as a whole and we want to make our contribution in other areas as well as football.

The training has been ongoing since December and at times it has been tough to keep going. I hope you will support me, Crewe United, The Mayor of Lisburn and most importantly The Mary Peters Trust and be safe in the knowledge that you have contributed to the careers of the future sports stars of Northern Ireland.

I am meeting my own costs for the trip and entry fee so 100% of your donations will be going to the charity.
