Story

Hi,

On Sunday 1st August I will be taking part in Ironman UK at Bolton Lancashire. The Ironman is the ultimate endurance test involving a 3.8 km (2.4 mile) open water swim in Pennington Flash, 180km (112mile) cycle around the Bolton, Wigan and Leigh area and finishing with a 42.2km (26 mile-Marathon distance) run into the centre of Bolton.  The elite competitors will be smashing round the course in around 9 hours, I will be merely aiming to complete the event!!!

I am taking part to raise money for the Rifles Regimental Trust. The trust raises money to support the immediate, medium and long term care of Rifles' Casualties sustained by members of the regiment since its was formed in February 2007. At the time of creating this page 45 members of the Rifles (my regiment) have sadly been killed on operations in Afghanistan (more than any other regiment, a tribute to the 'fallen' can be found at the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk9t4YMjK-o). A much larger number of riflemen have sustained 'life-changing' physical and mental injuries that will take years of treatment and support. The Rifles prides itself as being a 'family regiment' and is providing additional help and support to the injured riflemen (and their families and dependants) beyond that already provided by the Army itself and other organisations such as Help For Heroes.

On Sunday 1st August I will be pushing myself to the very limits of my physical ability in order to help those who have been injured defending our nation, a large number of whom I had the honour of knowing and serving alongside with 2nd Battalion The Rifles in Sangin last summer. Every penny received will be put to good use, please give generously.
