Story

The TAMBA charity has been a great support for us throughout our pregnancy and has provided the best information for us on all the many, largely unknown to us, aspects of a multiple pregnancies. As well as being and excellent resource for information and support, TAMBA also fund much needed research into TTTS and other complications related to multipe pregnancies.

From the moment we found out we were expecting, we found ourselves on an emotional rollercoaster. During an emergency scan at 9 weeks, we were expecting bad news, only to be told the overwhelming news that we were expecting identical twins - we were so so happy.

At 14 weeks we were told that the twins may be developing a condition called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a condition that can affect identical twins only and which if left untreated can be fatal to both babies. At 16 weeks we had emergency laser surgery to treat stage 3 TTTS, to separate blood vessels connecting the twins - Daisy was not getting enough blood and had no amnionic fluid around her and Isabelle was getting too much and was going into heart failure. We were told there was a 1/3 chance the surgery would save both, 1/3 we would lose one twin and 1/3 we would lose both - if we did nothing, we would almost certainly lose both.

Following the surgery, and after a really long week, we found that both babies were doing well. At 24w+4, we were told by the doctors that they were pleased with our progress and they believed we were now out of the woods and that they did not expect we’d have any further complications from TTTS or surgery.

A few days later we were admitted to hospital. At 25+5 Isabelle and Daisy was delivered via emergency c-section and taken to NICU. Sadly, due to complications during delivery, our beautiful Daisy passed away 4 hours later. Isabelle went on to have life saving surgery 6 days later and is still in NICU, getting stronger each day.

Without the advances brought about through research and amazing technologies that have been developed we would not have our little Isabelle with us today so all the money that we raise will go directly towards research into TTTS, to improve the outcome for other little ones who develop this condition.
