Story
Dear Friends,
For a third year in a row, I’ll be undertaking the 2012 New York City Marathon, and helping to raise money for orphanages supported by Bread and Water for Africa UK.
In the past, I've fundraised for Bread and Water's partner organisation, the Lewa Children’s Home, based in Eldoret, Kenya. When I first visited the Home in 2010, I was amazed by the accomplishments of Phyllis Keino, the Home's founder, and Jos Creemers, the manager of the adjoining Baraka Farm. Their hard work, dedication and unconditional love for Kenya’s neglected children inspired me to run for Lewa and raise money for two very important projects: the construction of two much-needed water reservoirs and a new and improved cheese-processing factory at Baraka Farm.
Thanks to your support we raised almost £18,000 in total in 2010 and 2011 and Bread and Water for Africa UK matched every pound!
The reservoirs and the new cheese factory that we fundraised for are now built. Because of these projects, the Lewa Children's Home is now in a better position to harvest rainwater and become self-sufficient through the sale of its crops and milk / cheese products.
On the 4th of November 2012 I plan to do it all over again. This year, however, I would like to extend my fundraising efforts to all three Children’s Homes in Africa supported by Bread and Water for Africa UK:
· The Lewa Children's Home, Kenya
· The Kabwata Transit Centre, Zambia
· The Mustard Seed Foundation, Sierra Leone
Like the Lewa Children’s Home, the Mustard Seen Foundation and the Kabwata Transit Centre provide food, shelter, education, healthcare, and love to orphaned children. The funds raised will go to support necessary projects such as the construction of a kitchen at the Mustard Seed Foundation, or the implementation of a nursery class at the Lewa Children's Home.
Your support over these past few years has been overwhelming and I’d like you to know that your generous sponsorship is making a real difference to the lives of orphans in Kenya. I just returned from Kenya, and visited the Lewa Children's Home. I can can vouch for the continued excellence in their work and care provided.
