Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year is the 20th anniversary of my first AIDS ride! In 2001, I rode 435 miles from Montreal to Portland, ME, and it totally kicked my butt. It would be 11 years before I did my next one, but what I found was a dedicated group of Riders that kept plugging along, mile after mile with an incredible support Crew making it happen. We have scientists and reps from both Emory Vaccine Center and the UCLA AIDS Institute who explain what their research does and cheers us on! They are all committed to help find an HIV vaccine, and we call this our "August Family."
Both Emory and UCLA take the funds we raise--and every penny goes to them!--and fund new, innovative research. Sometimes it goes to new researchers who need proof of concept to allow them to apply for bigger grants from the NIH or other funders. Sometimes it goes to try a new type of research. The best part is that every bit of research helps fill in gaps on our understanding of the immune system, HIV, and new approaches for vaccines.
I hope you can join our August Family and support Emory and UCLA. Charity Treks is a 501(c)3, and your tax-deductible donation will be split between both programs, and every donation helps.
