Story

So, Ive decided to do something very crazy and run the 2013 Mumbai Half Marathon, on the 20th of January. And what has caused me to do something so downright insane?! Well a few reasons...

Firstly, I'll be off on a journey of a life-time to go travelling the world, and while Im doing it, why not make it that bit more special by taking part in a sporting event on the other side of the world.

Secondly, I wanted to run for something meaningful and worthwhile. So the proceeds of this charity will be going to two different causes. One is called CanKids, who provide help and assistance to children with cancer and their families all over India. Every year 50,000 new cases of childhood cancer are discovered in India alone, and yet 70-80% of these children die due to lack of awareness, cost of treatment and the inadequate cancer treatment facilities and equipment. Money raised from this run will go towards tackling this problem in India.

And the other is Myton Hospice, specifically the Warwickshire hospice, who looked after Sue Penny, Mum of my good friend Tim Penny. Sue lost her life to breast cancer a year ago and was one of the happiest, kindest people that I have ever had the pleasure to know. The world is that little bit sadder without her. The money will go to Myton Hospice to help treat patients like Sue.

And finally, I have my own personal reasons for taking part. As some of you may or not know, two years ago I was involved in a ski accident which could (at point of impact and in reconstructive operations) have ended my life, as I was cut up by another skiier, forced off piste and hit a snow cannon at full speed. I fractured my pelvis in 4 different places, had my femur forced up inside of the hip, shattering the socket, 3 cracked rips and a ruptured spleen. This Half Marathon will be the first sporting event Ive taken part in since the accident and, as you can imagine, its going to be very emotional when I cross that finish line.

The time I will be aiming for is around 2 hours, taking into account the heat and humidity of Mumbai itself. Its basically going to be like dragging the trend mill into the sauna and running 13.1 miles. My training so far suggests I'm not far off my PB, so 2 hours is both a realistic, but still challenging goal.

I really hope you you can spare any money you have to help me reach my target amount, thank you very much for the support and I hope to do you guys proud come race day.
