Story

Please help me to reach my target of raising £2000 to go to the MS Therapy Centre based in Bristol. My little sister Rachel (now 24)was diagnosed with mutliple sclorosis back when she was in her very early teens, and has battled with this condition ever since. She has since become unable to do things as easily as she used to; things as basic as walking to the shops at the top of the road and not being able to go out and enjoy spending time with her friends. Not being able to carry out simple everyday tasks has been so frustrating and difficult for her. However, through all of this, through all of the frustration and difficulty, one thing that has never changed is her smile and lust for life. She continues to wake up everyday with a smile on her face and she continues to inspire me.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is widely believed to be an autoimmune condition – the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks, and subsequently damages, the ‘myelin sheath’ protecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This damage causes messages to and from the brain to be slowed, distorted or stopped altogether. This is what leads to the symptoms of MS.

The MS Therapy Centre in Bristol supports people from across Bristol, Somerset, North Somerset, Bath & NE Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. They provide a range of treatments and therapies for people living with MS and other neurological conditions, including physiotherapy, oxygen treatment, acupuncture, reflexology and aromatherapy. I cant stress enough how amazing these people are, and the work they do really does help & assist not just my sister but hundreds of other people as well.

Another reason behind this attempt at riding from Lands End to John O'Groats in just 7 days, is in memory of my father, who tragically lost his life 30 years ago in October when manager of a computer company in Bristol, a gunman came in and opened fire, and in an act of true heroism, my father lost his life in trying to defend others. To say i have now outlived my father when i am still 29 (30 in June) is something which saddens me deeply and during the 7 grueling days he along with my sister will be my motivation to complete this big challenge. In October it will be 30 years to the day since he lost his life, so this ride is also in memory to him.

I will be completing around 1000 miles in 7 days, which will mean riding around 142 miles on average each day. An extremely tough and gruelling challenge both physically and mentally, but if i can raise the money i am hoping to, then every single bit of pain will be worth it.

I will be updating this page as i go over the 7 days so people can see how im doing and keep up to date with where i am at the end of each day along with a little live video to give updates.

PLEASE HELP ME TO RAISE AS MUCH AS I CAN

Thank you
