Event: Great North Run 2022, on 11 September 2022
On 24 July, we celebrate the 132nd anniversary of the founding of the British Deaf Association.

Story

On Sunday 11th September i will be taking part in Great North Run, this years event being my second time and i will be running to raise funds for the British Deaf Association. This charity is close to me, my closest friends and families hearts. Hopefully any funds raised will go towards raising awareness etc.

This message is short and doesn't go in to to much detail, but I'm sure that those who read it will know, understand and donate to a great cause which is helping not only someone close to them but thousands of others.

Just one last thing to mention, all your family and friends are here to support you along the way!

Love Dan

The BDA British Deaf Association (BDA) was formed by Francis Maginn in Leeds as the British Deaf and Dumb Association (BDDA) on 24 July 1890. At that time, Deaf people were excluded from national decisions that affected their lives. Hearing people acted on their behalf, but they did not represent their true interests or share their aspirations. The BDDA was established to elevate the education and social status of the Deaf and Dumb in the United Kingdom.132 years later, the BDA continues to advocate on behalf of the Deaf community and to protect, promote and preserve our beautiful British Sign Language. It has been a successful year so far, with the passing of the BSL Act, recognising BSL as a language of Great Britain, and the launch of the 999 BSL emergency video relay service. But there is still much more to do to achieve our dream of recognition, inclusion and equality for Deaf people!
