Story

With the aid of Heritage Lottery funding I am currently writing a book on the history of a Sussex charity called Impact Initiatives. Impact aims to enable people of all generations in need of support to reach their potential through innovative, professional and high quality service provision.

Through researching for the book and interviewing employees, volunteers and those who have been supported by the services I have come to appreciate the sheer number of people Impact support and the incredible work they do. However national and local cuts, alongside a difficult economic environment, mean that Impact is finding it difficult to keep some of the services going, and several very important services have been forced to cut back on what they do, with a danger that they may have to close at some point if more money is not found.

One particular service that I believe is vital is the Young People's Centre in Ship Street, Brighton.

Brighton is a place that contains and attracts many young people. However inevitably some of these young people are vulnerable and need support on a whole range of issues. The YPC is a buzzing place with approachable, friendly staff who are available to offer information, advice and support and a range of counselling services. It is also just a fun, safe place for young people to hang out. During my interviews I have listened to first-hand accounts of young people who turned up to Brighton homeless and scared and have turned their lives around to become dynamic, active members of society thanks to the YPC.

In a small way I would like to play a part in ensuring that the YPC can continue to make this phenomenal difference to people's lives. For this reason all money raised from my marathon will be given to the YPC.

Thank you so much for visiting my page and giving a donation. I would be most grateful for anything that you can afford to give.
