Towering over the sandy plains of Tanzania stands Mount Kilimanjaro. At 5895 metres it is the World’s tallest free standing mountain.

For every £1 donated you will receive 1 Kilimetre which will be included in the draw.

The prize fund will depend on the number of metres sold. The draw will be made by an independent body when all of the 5895 Kilimetres have been allocated or on the 31st of October 2010, which ever comes sooner. If all of the Kilimetres are not allocated, the prize fund will be a percentage of those Kilimetres that have been allocated as of 31st of October 2010.

I am funding the trip myself so all money donated will go directly to Neonatal Unit. That will be £5895 if all Kilimetres are allocated!

A team of 30 will be climbing Africa's highest mountain and the World's tallest freestanding mountain, the infamous Mount Kilimanjaro. The intrepid adventurers will be in training for the next few months so that they are ready to take on the high altitude of Kilimanjaro in October 2010.

All money raised will be going to the Neonatal Unit at the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton. The unit provides specialist care to sick term and pre term (premature) new born babies. The unit is one of the largest in the country caring for over 600 babies every year.

It is a state of the art facility, which has 36 cots; 20 intensive/high dependency cots and 16 special care cots. The unit is a regional centre within the Central Coast South Neonatal Network (CCSNN) and looks after babies from Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole, Chichester, Dorchester, Basingstoke, The Isle of Wight, Salisbury, Winchester and The Channel Islands.

The team of doctors, nurses, health care assistants and friends of the unit are aiming to raise a magnificent £70,000 to provide extra facilities for the babies and their parents.

Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust supports the needs of half a million people living in the city and the south west Hampshire and also provides specialist services including cancer, cardiac, neurosciences and pediatric care to more than three million people in central southern England, The Channel Islands and further afield.

Providing these critical services costs £1.2 million every day.

The Trust’s goal is to be a World class centre of clinical and academic achievement where staff work together to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care and the best people want to come to learn, work and research.

Southampton Hospital Charity through their charitable support aims to enhance the first class services provided by the trust.

Through fundraising activities and charitable gifts, the charity can help to develop an environment which exceeds the expectations of patients and their families at Southampton General Hospital, Princess Anne Hospital, Countess Mountbatten House Hospice and in other outreach services.
