I’m Daniel Reeves, aged 29 and some might say mad for taking up this challenge. I have been running for 5 years, so why not??

I’ve signed up to undertake what the Discovery Channel describes as ‘the toughest footrace on earth’ yes that’s right, I’m going to take part in the Marathon Des Sables (MdS).

Mds consists of 4 marathons and 1 ultra marathon over 5/6 days in the Sahara Desert.  Add to this the blistering heat, of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, oh and one rest day. I know I will be pushing myself to the limit, and it will be both a mental and physical challenge. But I’m up for it!

I’m doing this challenge to raise money for the great charity ‘Swings & Smiles’. This local charity provides much needed help and support to families with children with learning difficulties and disabilities to access, participate and benefit from play with the whole family. This is the only play facility within a 40 mile radius of Newbury. The charity receives no local authority funding and rely on donations and fund raising to keep going.
