Story
After a few too many drinks one night last summer, Andy Kerks, Chris Holt and myself decided to sign up for a 55k walk that starts on Saturday 21st April in Sowerby Bridge, Yorkshire and finishes in central Manchester, hopefully approximately 12 hours later.
As seasoned 5k runners how hard could it be? It's only walking, isn't it...
Well, after two practice/training attempts that have come to a combined total distance of 56k it dawned on us just how tough it's actually going to be.
We are doing this in aid of the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, a charity dedicated to helping those affected by the terrorist attack in the city in May of last year, so every penny you can donate would be hugely appreciated by the three of us.
IMPORTANT EDIT Friday 6th April 2018 - This morning we received an email from Pure Challenge, the company organising the event, to advise they have gone into administration with immediate effect and that the event has been cancelled, meaning there will be no marshals, no food and drink stops and no finishing line with medals, t-shirts etc.
HOWEVER - the three of us aren't going to be defeated that easily and have solemnly declared to go ahead with it on our own, even if it kills us ... which hopefully it won't as we'll probably not be found for weeks.
Thanks for all your donations so far, they won't be in vain. x
UPDATE- Well, we did it! Setting off at 07:15 and finally finishing at around 20:15. We can honestly say it's the toughest thing any of us have ever done. No only physically, especially given the unusually hot and sunny weather, but also mentally. The last 15k was absolutely sound destroying.
Had it not been for the generosity of all those who have donated I'm not sure we'd have all finished.
Today (Sunday) will be spent mostly lay down.
