DEC Nepal Earthquake Appeal · 27 April 2015 ·

At times of overseas emergency, the DEC brings together a unique alliance of the UK's aid, corporate, public and broadcasting sectors to rally the nation's compassion, and ensure that funds raised go to DEC agencies best placed to deliver effective and timely relief to people most in need.

Story

On Saturday 25 April a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. It severely shook the lives of at least 5.3m people and left many homeless. Nepal’s major cities, including the capital Kathmandu, have been badly damaged and rural areas near the epicentre have been completely cut off by avalanches.

Already over 5000 people have been confirmed dead and the figure is likely to rise significantly in the coming days. Even those whose homes are still standing are sleeping in the streets because they are terrified by regular aftershocks.

We would all like to help, I want to help. Donating and fundraising to a reputable aid relief organisation is often all that can be done, so this is why I have decided to do what I can by setting out on another charity trek, walking the Boundary Forest of Dartmoor, at the end of May.

I have done this trek before, back in 2007, but this time, with some deviations along the 45 mile route, the task is to bag 61 peaks (Tors, Rocks, or Hills) in just over 61 miles. There would be a certain symmetry if I could complete this in under 61 hours, but I've allowed more time should I be a little rusty!
