This year to celebrate the last year of my twenties, I will be attempting a number of events with the aim of challenging me and raising money for Cyclists Fighting Cancer (CFC). The main event will be the TransAlp, but I will also be taking part in other events.
May
The Yorkshire 3 Peaks – This is a 24.5 mile hike up and down the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales: Pen-y-ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m). In order to join the exclusive “Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club” the aim is to complete the circular hike within 12 hours. This is the Mills & Reeve Charity Challenge for 2010. - Completed in 8hrs 40mins (ish)
July
The TransAlp – This is the big event of the year and I will be riding this with my team mate Neil Wragg. The event is over 8 days, covers 400 miles off-road, through 4 countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy) and we will be climbing approx. 20,000m over the Alps (that is approximately two and half times the height of Everest!).
We will be riding against professionals (we will most likely see the back of them at the beginning and then at the finish) and our aim is to complete it in the quickest time possible. This will be the biggest event I have ever taken part in and is likely to push me to my physical limits (hence why I have to try to do it before I turn 30!).
August & SeptemberRecovery – I think I may have earned it!
October
EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon 2010 – After completing the Norwich half marathon last year, I aim to improve on my time (1hr 42min) this year. Hopefully by doing
some training, I will be able to achieve this.
I really do not enjoy running and so I really am doing this for charity. That alone has to be good enough to sponsor me!!
November
MOT/Service – I will most likely need a new body at this point!
The reason I am doing all of the above is for CFC a charity that is dear to my heart. I truly believe the work CFC does by providing children and young people with a means of exercise, enjoyment and focus in their lives is fantastic and makes a real difference. By taking part in the above events and raising as much money as possible is my way of helping CFC. Those of you who know me, will know that I enjoy a challenge (apart from running) and I hope you agree that for me to get through the above events will be a challenge!
