On 9th September 2017 I will be reviving a family tradition by taking part in the annual "Ride & Stride" event to raise funds for the maintenance and mission of our historic churches, of which my corner of rural Leicestershire is particularly blessed.

Justin has kindly (or foolishly) joined me in this endeavor as "pace man". The aim of the event is to visit as many churches as possible during the day, which with an average distance of 2 miles between churches in my rural deanery (not counting the odd small cluster together) is quite the endeavour. At present it takes me 1 hour to do a lap around the 4 churches in my home Benefice. We aim to get round at least 23 churches (maybe up to 30 if time and puff allow!) on the day; a journey of 30+ miles.

Now this might not seem a lot to seasoned riders or athletic types, but for someone whose major physical achievement over the last 12 months has been walking 2 miles to St. Andrew's Church and back most days, a 30 mile cycle ride is going to be a real challenge!

So please sponsor us generously, and make our imminent pain and suffering worthwhile! I am hoping it will be drier than when I was manning a church last year (see pictures), but it might not be! Also it is a good cause, knowing from my daily experience the financial struggles of particularly historic rural churches who wish to continue engaging in loving and missional service to their local communities - to whom they are vital community and sacred spaces.
