Remembering Bob Treadgold
Bob Treadgold was my friend and colleague. The sudden loss
of Bob, following his short battle against Sporadic CJD, came as a total shock
to us all. Bob was such a special person and was taken far too soon. Bob truly
had a gift for people and was an inspiration to so many. Bob supported me in my
early career through a very difficult period within the business and this was how
our relationship was founded and continued for many years. We stayed in contact
even after Bob retired, he continued to mentor myself and many others beyond
his retirement. Bob always had time for everyone, we would have conversations and
exchange jokes throughout the years and race to be the first to text each other
over Christmas and New Year. You could
be guaranteed of his humour and words of wisdom. Bob will continue to be missed
by myself and many others and will always hold a special place in my heart and
memory
Not being able to be at his memorial this year, I’ve decided
to challenge myself in memory of Bob and on the 15th of July I will
be cycling up Alpe d’Huez, to raise funds for the CJD Support Network. Alpe d’Huez and the 21 hairpin turns remain the most
challenging and well-known stage of the Tour de France. Each of the 21 turns
are marked to help cyclists manage the torturous climb. the length of the climb is 13.8 km, with 6,100
ft of elevation gain and an average slope of 8.1 %.
