Threats to Freedom of Speech are constant, they come from all directions and involve all types of actors. For this reason, supporting freelance journalists, whose work independence guards them against censorship, is vital nowadays. They are at the heart of independent reporting. However, their autonomy also comes at a price, their roles often expose them to financial insecurity, given the lack of a stable income. This is why I believe that organizations such as the Rory Peck Trust need full support from everyone interested in living in a world with a diversity of voices. The Rory Peck Trust is the only charity dedicated to freelance journalists' support, safety and welfare worldwide. Telling the stories the world needs to hear can come at great risk to freelance journalists, many of whom have been seriously injured, threatened, imprisoned, detained, forced into exile or killed as a result of their work. We provide dedicated training and support through our Crisis, Recovery and Trauma Therapy Funds as well as specialist mental health and resilience skills training through our Resilience Programme.
