Event: Walk the Test another Way, from 1 May 2020 to 31 July 2020

Story

During lockdown, I've been in training to get fitter, with a regular schedule of jogging which is now five miles every couple of days, in circuits round our local Sports Centre field.  That used to be easy when I was much younger: now it's a minor triumph!

I now want to use this minor achievement to raise some money for a number of causes in which I am an active member or supporter.  I've chosen this period because under normal circumstances we would be celebrating the Romsey Festival.  Instead I plan to do at least 25 miles running, spread over the two weeks between 4th and 19th July 2020.  UPDATE: Dates now adjusted to 2nd July to 13th July (even less time)!

Please support me, as I'm sure you will relate to at least one of the chosen charities, which are:

- Romsey Opportunity Group: a charity providing childcare support for children with learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities between the ages of 0 and 5.  I am a Trustee and my wife is a volunteer helper.

- Romsey Festival: a triannual event celebrating the arts and culture of the town and local area, which should have been taking place from 4th-19th July this year, but which has had to be postponed to 2021.  Costs have inevitably been incurred with the cancellation.  I am a former Chairman and currently Treasurer and ticketing guru.

- Friends of Romsey Abbey: a charity supporting the development of improved facilities in our beautiful local Abbey for visitors and the wider community.  I am currently Vice Chair and Treasurer.

- Friends of Romsey Signal Box: a group who have restored the local railway signal box into it's own museum, opened normally on a regular basis, but currently closed due to the pandemic.  I am President and Treasurer.

- Welshpool & LLanfair Railway: a preserved narrow gauge steam railway in mid-Wales which has been unable to open this year as yet.  I am the Roster Officer for the operating department, and a qualified signalman and guard on the line.

- Triangulate: a local charity promoting good practice, particularly in the workplace, to reduce mental health issues and remove the associated stigma of mental illness.  I am a past committee member and was a close friend of someone whose death prompted the establishment of the group.

Thanks for your donations!  And keep a watch on progress on this site...
