Story
Thank you for keeping my spirits high throughout this challenge.
Why have I done this trek ?...because mental health problems can affect anyone, rich or poor, young or old, shattering the lives of those affected and the lives of the people close to them. One in four of us experience a mental health problem (from Alzeimers to clinical depression) at some point in our lives. Mind runs 24 hour helplines for people who are so desperate that they have no-where else to turn.
I have completed my Trek in the Rift Valley of Kenya, for 5 days. Most days were about 8 hours, walking, between 12-15 miles daily. In temperature of around 35 degrees, camping in tents at night to cool down and nurse my blisters. Keeping hydrated and cool was a major issue. As well as the early morning wake up calls - 5.45AM!
So far gifts have been taken for the poor children in Kenya and Uganda. Additional money has also been donated by me to build a storeroom for a Masai school (as a gift from friends at ITN). Some very young children (from age 6 ) walk for miles to get to this school (sometimes walking for 3 hours) as there are so few schools in the area. At the end of a school day they leave carrying water containers to take home, as part of their chores for the day. And still they smile and are so good natured.
This site will remain open until Mid-April to take further donations. It's simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Mind The Mental Health Charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
