Story
I am a Year 13 student at Ilkley Grammar School, in West Yorkshire, and a triathlete, part of the Yorkshire Triathlon Academy since 2016, and England Next Generation squad for a year. I was lucky enough to receive a SportsAid grant to contribute to the costs of my 2019 season. This included gaining GB qualification and travelling to Kitzbuhel, Austria, for the Youth European Championships where I finished 10th, as well as my first European Junior Cup race, in Riga, Latvia, and many domestic races. In August I was crowned "16-19 Age Group Triathlon World Champion" in Lausanne, Switzerland, before recently breaking the Ilkley Triathlon course record; a surprisingly emotional end to the main bulk of my race season.
SportsAid has helped me and my family significantly this year, so I am fundraising and giving something back to the charity, doing something I love, during "SportsAid week", with the hope that with every donation, another up-and-coming athlete is more likely to gain some extra financial support, and experience the same benefits as I have, helping to avoid restrictions based around money and allow new young athletes across many sports to develop invaluable experience in their chosen sport.
My challenge involves an approximately 6 hour stationary bike ride on Wed 25th September, in my school, with the aim of covering as much distance as possible in that time.
