Story

Chaps and chapesses.

It's been a while since you have received a begging email from me. I've decided to do a double challenge this year.

Firstly on the 12th September I shall be doing the Tatton Olympic Triathlon - 1 mile of breast stroke, 25 miles on the bike and then a 6 mile run. I know some of you think this is hard, whilst others believe triathlons are sooo last year and have fought polar bears whilst armed with little more than two day old undercrackers and a second hand banjo.

As such, and to balance the sporty nature of the first part, the following Friday, I shall be attempting to imbibe 24 pints in 24 hours. Now I know this goes against medical advice etc etc, but you have to admit its a little harder than a 1k charity run. As those who have supped with me before, I am a sprinter rather than a session man. Several of you you have offered to stay with me whilst I drink in Gethsemene - I am very grateful

Why this charity? Maybe its because I'm an ardent Telegraph reader, but I'm immensely proud and grateful that there are so many brave lads and lasses who are prepared to go and do such a dirty job and risk life and limb for our collective sakes. I know some people think we shouldn't be in some of these conflicts. I fully respect this - but argue with the politicians. Regardless, the country has decided we are in, and I think we should properly take care of the people who are injured. When the news moves on, should we just forget about the 19 year old private who is going to have to strap on a false leg every morning for the rest of his life. What is that was your son? Would you be bored so quickly?

On the second part of my challenge I'll be starting on the Friday at high noon in London at the Grenadier pub in London, moving up to a pub in Hale by late afternoon. If you can join me for a pint, and spare a few quid for the chaity, that would be fab. Not sure how I will train for these two events as they are sort of mutually exclusive, but I'm sure Olly Reed's autobiography will have a good training schedule.

Take care

Dominic
