Story

Challange completed...

We left Drymen on a beautiful sunny day at 08:22 walking the 16 miles to Callander, where we changed and picked up our bikes for the next stage which was 39 mile to arrive in at 18:39 some 10hrs 17 Mins later.

I was delighted with my time as I thought I would manage around about 10 hrs and after having to stop only 3 miles into the bike ride with bad cramp in both my calves and get some physio to free them up.

I continued on at a bit slower pace to get to the end and my first Gold medal.

We were very lucky with the weather although during the afternoon the temperature was well into the 20’s and dehydration was a problem but the organisers put on extra water stops to help.

I have a great feeling of achievement and satisfaction at completing the event and raising so much money for The Princes Trust charity.

To date I have raised £1775.00 which is fantastic when I had only set my target at £550.00.

That is thanks to all the very kind and generous people who have supported and encouraged me before, during and after the event.

Thank you.

Doug

Thank you for taking the time to look.

The Rob Roy Challenge is a tough event requiring serious training and careful preparation.  (So goodness knows why I signed up to it, think it was the free food at the end!!)

Covering 55 miles of the spectacular Rob Roy Way, teams or individuals walk 16 miles from Drymen, near Loch Lomond, north-east through the Trossachs to Callander, where they switch to bikes for a 39 mile cycle to Kenmore - all in around 8-12 hours.

There are three medal stages including relay options for all participants.

Teams or individuals completing and stopping at Balquhidder (27 miles) will receive a Bronze medal;
Those reaching Killin (38 miles) will earn a Silver medal; and
Those completing the entire 55 mile course will earn Gold.

I am hoping to cover the entire length of 55 miles, however only if i can get sponsorship of £550 (or more!!!). Yup thats only £10 per mile. (I will probably lose more lbs than that in weight )

I am sure that if you really wish to see me working hard for a change you will dig deep and sponsor me.

All the money donated will be going to 'The Princes Trust' and really could make a difference to the one million young people in the who are not in education, employment or training.
