The Challenge (2.9.17)
I want to raise money for a great charity.
I want to do something that is worthy of your support.
I want a challenge that I don't prepare for and so have no idea if I can even achieve! The Rookie Weekend Challenge is born.
I'm no cyclist and so my Rookie Weekend Challenge will be to use an old company bike and try to cycle over 100 miles from the north coast of Devon to the south coast over the course of a day (with a requirement to catch the final train home!)
The Charity
Goodwill Children's Homes look after children who have either been orphaned or come from families that are simply too poor to provide essential shelter, food and education. Goodwill is able to provide them with the life-chances that their families cannot. Here’s a short story about Rajalakshmi...
Rajalakshmi grew up in a small village in the district of
Tamil Nadu where she lived with her parents and two younger
siblings. Tragically she lost both her parents in a fatal accident
when she was just 12 years old. Her grandparents tried to look after all three children, but they were just too old to provide the necessary support. Thankfully, Raja’s grandparents heard about the charity and Goodwill were able to provide a loving home for all three
children. Raja flourished while at Goodwill. As well as receiving a good education, she made many good friends and enjoyed drawing, dancing and gardening. Raja recently finished school and her dedication to work was rewarded when she scored the highest marks in her year group. With the help of Goodwill, she has since enrolled at the Sacred Heart Nursing College.
