Story
This summer I'm going back to Belarus with the Chernobyl Children's Project after my life-changing experience volunteering with them last year. And just to make things that extra bit exciting, my Mum is coming with me too! I'm so proud of her for deciding to take on this challenge and step out of her comfort zone, it's going to be such an adventure! :)
Alongside a group of volunteers (all with special educational needs experience) me and Mum will be spending two weeks at Zhuravichi Orphanage, home to 350 young people with learning disabilities, many of whom are autistic.
We will help run fun activities for these kids who sadly lead limited lives in the orphanage. All through the winter they look back on the happy memories of their last Summer break, and then in the Spring they start looking forward to the next one.
About the charity and cause:
Chernobyl Children’s Project (CCP) supports families and children of Belarus in many incredible ways- and I will be lucky enough to play a part in their wonderful work this summer!
It is only recently that people in Belarus are beginning to diagnose and believe that autism as a condition exists. Sadly autistic young people are the ones who live in the worst conditions, and are in need of the most help.
All volunteers need to raise a minimum of £350 to pay for the cost of the accommodation and flights and to help fund the fun activities for the children.
We would love to raise as much as possible to give these kids the amazing summer experience they deserve.
We would be so grateful for any donations you can make- every penny counts and will make a real difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable and overlooked children.
Thank you in advance for your kind support- we are so excited to take part in this incredible experience! :)
