The Sowenna Appeal is raising money for equipment and therapeutic programmes that go above what the NHS provides, to aid activities which will have a positive impact on the health, wellbeing and recovery of children and young people in Cornwall.

Story

It is estimated that 1 in 10 young people aged between 5 and 16 have a mental disorder. Most can be treated within the community, but some require a more intensive programme of treatment and care.Currently some of our most ill and vulnerable young people are travelling hundreds of miles away from their family and friends to hospitals in Birmingham, Essex, Kent and Cheshire to access psychiatric treatment. We are delighted that we will soon be in a position to support these young people much closer to home through Sowenna Cornwalls first adolescent mental health unit which is currently being built on the Bodmin Hospital site.

Unfortunately, I was one of those young people who was failed by CAMHS when I began to have seizures and I don't want a single person to have to go through what I did.

Now that I am fully recovered, I am running the 10k again for the first time in 5 years, to help give back to my local CAMHS. I am also a board member for the Sowenna Appeal.

Any contribution however small I am immensely grateful for.

Thank you :)
