We create global partnerships, working to help improve lives in Africa and the UK.

Story

I am in my final year at Sheffield Hallam University studying Law LLB and hope to graduate in November, before training as a Barrister.

In June 2019 I am travelling to Lesotho, in South Africa,
with Sheffield Hallam’s Law and Human Rights Department and the charity Africa’s Gift. We aim to raise £30,000 for our trip.

Lesotho is a rural area in South Africa and is one of the
poorest countries in the world, receiving very little international aid.

Africa’s Gift works closely with community members to
provide practical support to those in need, focussing specifically on women’s empowerment.

Africa’s Gift collects, and delivers, shoes to local
children with the aim to encourage them to go to school. Providing appropriate footwear will allow children to make the long journey to school and receive the education that they deserve. Without shoes the children are not allowed to attend school.

Africa’s Gift also works incredibly hard in encourage women to engage in work or education. Women in Lesotho currently spend long hours cooking on open fires inhaling a large amount of smoke which leads to their premature death and blindness. We will be purchasing as many possible Wonderbags and delivering them to the women in Lesotho. This will encourage women to leave their food cooking during the day whilst they go to work, education or spend
time with their children.

A Wonderbag is similar to a slow cooker but does not
require electricity. I am currently learning how to prepare basic meals using
the Wonderbag in preparation to teach the women in Lesotho during our trip.

Domestic violence is currently a major problem in Lesotho, with an estimated 80% of women currently suffering. On our trip we aim to work closely with community project work, specifically domestic violence projects.

I am very grateful for all contributions towards the
project, which will be spent on enabling me to go on the trip and to buy as many Wonderbags as possible. I have a JustGiving Page where updates to the trip
will be provided, this can be found at:

If anyone has any unwanted shoes (of any type or size)
please do donate them, they will be used for a fantastic cause.

Thank you.
