Emily's 100 Mile Scooter Challenge

100 Mile Challenge - Mobility Scooter Style! · 6 March 2019
I was diagnosed with a fairly rare condition called hEDS just over 10 years ago. While finally getting a diagnosis was a relief, over the years I have struggled to accept that I have a life altering, degenerative condition.
To those not quite as familiar with acronyms as I have become, hEDS stands for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome - hypermobility type. This can mean something different to everyone with the condition, but for me this means that I have chronic pain in almost all of my joints, affecting my mobility and I suffer with chronic fatigue as well as POTS (a condition affecting my heart rate) to name a few!
EDS UK is the only UK charity offering support to individuals suffering from any of the 13 sub-types of EDS. See more at https://www.ehlers-danlos.org/
After reading one of their weekly newsletters last year I decided I wanted to do something to raise money and awareness for the charity. As last year marked 10 years since my diagnosis with hEDS I decided that I would complete 100 miles as a nod to that. Except...I can’t walk for 10 minutes, never mind 100 miles! And so, my ‘100 Mile Scooter Challenge’ was born.
Between May & September I will be doing ten legs of 10 miles each on my mobility scooter, joined by my friends, family, and anyone else who would like to get involved. The dates will be in my blog in March.
My goal is to raise £500 for EDS UK. This money will go towards helping to raise awareness and preventing misdiagnosis of EDS, as well as contributing towards vital research projects.
Please get involved in any way you can, whether that is sponsoring me, joining me on my journey - or both!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
