Story
Hello! Welcome to my page.
I would like to try and raise money for a good cause, supported by the University of Brighton.
I will be walking 14 miles in an attempt to raise funds to support the construction and maintainance of a school in Nepal.
As a student of the University studying Primary Education, I have been introduced to project by Kevin Fossey from the school of education, who is leading the effort to raise funds for construction of a new school in Malagiri for children age 3-8.
Background info
Young children in this remote rural area are in urgent need of schooling. Many children in this area who are under the age of eight do not recieve an education, because they are not able to manage the strenuous two hour walk to the local government school.
So many people in Nepal recieve an inadequate education and live in conditions of extreme poverty. As we all know, education can make a huge difference in people's lives and provides the means by which indivdual can improve their circumstances.
At the present time, very few of the villagers can read or write so they do not get good prices for their crops and more worryingly are allowing their daughters to be ‘tricked’ into thinking that they will have a better life as maids or workers in India or the Gulf. Unfortunately, many of them end up in the sex industry instead. The school is being built this school in order to provide not only an education but a meeting place for the whole community.
The relavtively small project will be of great benefit to the community of Malagiri and make a positive impact upon the future of the children and Malagiri itself so please donate anything to help. Every little helps.
Thank you for your support,
Emmeline x
