Story
Our beloved father Geoffrey Maddrell OBE died on Saturday 11th August 2018, aged 82. He was a kind, generous and marvellously energetic man who tried to make the society in which he lived a better place. All his married life he enjoyed the unstinting support of our mother, Wyn Maddrell, to whom he owed much of the success he achieved. Our father was very moved by the distress of autistic people and dismayed by the difficulties they face finding work and leading the fulfilling lives which neuro-typical people take for granted. He was determined to do his best to give autistic people the same opportunities to pursue careers and live fulfilling lives that the neuro-typical have. To this end, he established the charity Research Autism in 2004. It is now known as Employment Autism. Our father was a remarkably energetic fundraiser for this charity. He raised money for it in any way he could. He himself ran 18 marathons and many half-marathons to raise money from sponsors. By running these marathons he raised about £500,000. All charities now find it hard to raise enough funds; we have organized this collection to honour our father's memory in a way of which he would approve and to raise a significant sum of money for the charity he founded which does the marvellous and essential job of helping autistic people find fulfilling work and lead contented lives. We would be grateful for any donation you felt able to make.
